Portfolio Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Portfolio Analysis - Essay Example Logically, then, the risk and return of an individual security should be analysed in terms of how that security affects the risk and return of a portfolio in which it is held. As mentioned in Finance for Non-Financial Managers by Lawrence W Tuller, Diversifiable risk is also known as company-specific, or unsystematic, risk. Market risk is also known as non diversifiable, or systematic, or beta, risk; it is that risk remains after diversification. Diversifiable risk is caused by such random events as lawsuits, strikes, successful and unsuccessful marketing programs, winning or losing a major contract, and other events that are unique to a particular firm. Since these events are random, their effects on portfolio can be eliminated by diversification- bad events in one firm will be offset by good events in another. The riskiness of a portfolios declines as the number of stocks in the portfolio increases. The smaller the correlation coefficient (the movements of two variables with respect to each other), the lower the risk in a large portfolio. If we could find a set of stocks whose correlation were negative or zero, all risk could be eliminated. Consider Stock M with the beta coefficient of 2 i.e. ... This is due to the diversification of risk in a portfolio. (2) Explain carefully how diversification leads to the construction of the Markowitz efficient frontier. Answer: As explained by Eugene Brigham and Gapenski, the computational procedure for determining the efficient set of portfolios was developed by Harry Markowitz and first reported in his article "Portfolio Selection", Journal of Finance, March 1952. Markowitz developed the basic concepts of portfolio theory. With only two assets, the feasible set of portfolios is a point within the curve. However if we increase the number of assets, we would obtain an area under the curve. The points A,B,C and D represent single securities. All other points with in the curve, including its boundaries, represent attainable set. The above Curve boundary from A to D however defines the efficient set of portfolios, which is also called efficient frontier. Portfolios to the left of the efficient set are not possible because they lie outside the attainable set. Portfolios to the right of the boundary line (interior portfolios) are inefficient because some other portfolio would provide either a higher return with the same degree of risk or a lower risk for the same rate of return. Markowitz efficient frontier model. The optimal portfolio for each investor is found at the tangency point between the efficient set of portfolio and one of the investor's indifference curves. This tangency point marks the highest level of satisfaction the investor can attain. The investor's risk/return trade off function is based on the standard economic concepts of utility theory and the indifference curves. Here we have 2 Stock holders. Mr Y and Mr Z. Mr Y is more risk

Personal plan in engaging cultural competence in Nursing Essay
Personal plan in engaging cultural competence in Nursing - Essay Example lways unavailable due to a busy schedule and family members of the patient were only able to speak with the nurses-on-duty at night, who were mostly Koreans or Chinese. One staff-on-duty just migrated from Korea and had limited English. Two days after the admission to the hospital, the patient died on her sleep. The cause of death was unknown, but the doctor implied that she may have had a heart attack that night. It was the only time, the day when the patient died, when the family was finally able to speak with the doctor who had been in a very busy schedule when the patient was still alive. I was really devastated when I found out that my grandmother died. I was not able to visit her when she was in the hospital; it was all so abrupt for the family. It was indeed a quick turnaround. She was healthy days before being admitted to the hospital, and she was always on schedule with her doctor and was equipped with her medication prescriptions, until her sudden death. My family and relatives all questioned her sudden demise. Indeed, there were symptoms, but these were not addressed properly, leading to her immediate death. For several years now, I have been thinking that her death was primarily prompted by lack of communication with the physician and the medical staff, and one major reason of which I believe, was language barrier and cultural diversity between my grandmother and her family on one hand, and the medical staff and the primary physician on the other hand. Another thing was that my grandmother was someone who tended to agree on everything from a healthcare staff even if she thought otherwise. One common trait among Filipinos is being reserved in many ways, such that we do not argue or debate to point out our views. With the diversity of culture, religion, and ethnicity of patients, medical staff, and other networks of the hospital in the healthcare field, it is important that communication is ensured in the way that each individual understands one

Biblical creation story in reference to science Essay
Biblical creation story in reference to science - Essay Example The second is the day age view that states that the days in the book of Genesis are indefinite periods and not the normal twenty four- days. The restoration theorists come up with a different view that the days in genesis are indeed the normal days, but a lot time elapsed between the first and second verses of the book of Genesis when God was recreating the earth. The fourth view that is the literary framework view states that the author of the book of Genesis did not intend to indicate the order of creation nor the number of days and it is therefore not in order to go into this line. Science and the biblical story of creation can only be linked if the Genesis days are viewed as indefinite periods. Theologians use other verses in the Bible to explain the other verses. It is this explanation that shows that the days in Genesis could only be explained in the form of periods that are indefinite. When looking at the Hebrew Bible, the word yom is used to explain the days in the creation story. In Hebrew, the word yom represents the normal days with twenty-four hours. This can be misleading, but when we look at other scriptures, the word yom represents periods of time. For example, in the book of Hosea 6:2 where Hosea tells the people that after two days God would revive them and on the third day, raise them up.( New King James Version) Taken in this context, it cannot mean the ordinary twenty-four hours of the day. One would argue that the days in Genesis chapter one are normal days because God commanded man to work for six days and rest on the seventh day. The aspect being brought in here is that man should dedicate some of his time to worship his creator: it is the idea of rest being brought in. In Exodus 23: 10-11, the Sabbath rest is a yearlong and also in Leviticus 5: 8-17, the Israelites were commanded to take a rest of jubilee after fifty years. The author of Genesis chapter one states that vegetation was created before the sun. This statement

Law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 11
Law - Essay Example Lastly, the paper will also make suggestion for the further changes to be made in the statute in the light of the changing needs and requirements of the social establishments during the contemporary times. Hence, the paper will provide an in-depth examination of assault in accordance with the statutes of law. It is a reality beyond suspicion that the states and political authorities have always been interested in devising schemes and implementing them in order to maintain law and order as well as to ensure the safety and protection of all members of society. For this purpose, statutes of laws are articulated and enforced for discouraging criminal acts and punishing the offenders, so that crime rate could be controlled in society. The devising of statutes and making amendments in them, for combating the assaults, has always been an essential part of the same campaign launched by the New York legislature and administration. The term assault simply refers to the violent attack on some individual, group or community out of mens rea or criminal intention with the aim of inflicting physical hurt or harm subsequently. Battery and maiming are taken to be the crimes almost identical to assault, which observe proximity with assault in nature and scope, as all the three maintain similar intention and consequences, though effects of the three could witness slight differences (Bryn, 1966:614-5). Battery actually is the occurrence of physical contact between the offender and offended, while maiming could be regarded to be the combination of both assault and battery. Hence, the court of law announces punishment in accordance with the damages appeared in the wake of committing of the offence (615-6). While discussing the elements attributed to assault, there must be mens rea behind committing of this crime, and the act has actually been performed, either it has caused severe harm

HIV pandemic Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
HIV pandemic - Essay Example As such, the prevalence of the HIV epidemic continues to traverse across all quarters of the globe although the burden of the epidemic varies considerably between regions and countries. The worst hit region in the world is Sub-Saharan Africa whereby nearly one in every 20 adults is living with HIV, accounting for 71% of people living with HIV across the globe (Sidibà ©, Zuniga and Montaner 6). I am exploring this epidemic of HIV because I want to sensitize people on the prevalence of the disease, as well as assist in instituting significant changes that might bring down the afore-mentioned statistics. HIV and AIDS is not a killer disease as purported across various platforms, but a preventable and manageable health condition that people can live with and still fulfill all their dreams, goals and aspirations in life (Bahcall 1159). HIV refers to Human Immunodeficiency Virus, which causes Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome mostly known as AIDS. As such, when this virus infects a person, he or she gets weak and loses ability to fight other opportunistic infections including even cancer. Many people who have the HIV virus end up testing positive for AIDS after developing other opportunistic infections, especially after their immunity levels drop. As such, having the HIV virus does not always means that one has AIDS (Dodds 790). However, a person can live as many years as possible with this virus before developing AIDS. HIV and AIDS are not curable diseases. As such, due to increase on research and medication available today, it is possible for a person to live a normal life with minimal interruption in quality of life. HIV normally attacks and destroys the CD4 white blood cells commonly known as the T-cell whose main function is to fight diseases in the body. As such, when the immune system of T-cells reduces to a very low point, one loses the ability to fight infections in his or her body. However, several conditions arise for patients infected

General description, meaning of the song Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
General description, meaning of the song - Essay Example He is reminiscent of the times when he was at loggerheads with his mother and ended up being kicked out of the house but remembers that once he was convicted the mother was the first to visit him in jail. The song takes the listener through the harsh life of living in the streets and the plight that the mothers have to pass through in order to make ends meet for their children. The song is filled with the ââ¬Ëgangsterââ¬â¢ life that the street members used to live in. The song takes one through the experiences that the life in the streets meant for the people that lived the street life day in day out. Although they made ends meet and had a living it took a lot of effort to ensure that they were safe with the gang members constantly being tracked by the police. Tupac however justifies the people that engaged in thug life in the streets asserting that the life was only to ensure that they got some money that they later used to help their families. According to Tupac (41-43) ââ¬Å"I needed money on my own so I started Slangin and I ainââ¬â¢t guilty because even though I sell rocks it feels good putting money in the mailboxâ⬠meaning that although he was engaged in different evils while on the streets he was doing it for the good of the family and not for his own benefits and also to pay for his own rent. Tupac reiterates that life in the street s is hard and one has to adapt to make it out there since everyone lives for themselves however he still remembers the huge role that his mother played. The song highlights the plight of different people on the streets especially those that are of age and are wishing to join the different gangs to make it in life. It is an illustration of the hustle of the gang members and the different reasons that leads the people in the society to join the gangs. Poverty and poor living conditions is also clearly identified as a
The Causes and Effects of Being a Student in a Foreign Country Essay
The Causes and Effects of Being a Student in a Foreign Country - Essay Example It could be that a relative who lives aboard is in need of their assistances. The student therefore will travel to come to the aid of their kin. Not wanting to leave their education aside for the time that they are in that different country, they enroll in school. However, it is not always the case that the family has an issue, sometimes there are positive causes in the family, such as relocation. In the case of relocation the parents of the student might have obtained a job abroad. Then the student would move just to stay with their parents, and end up attending a foreign school as a result. Some of the more depressing reasons that a student might need to study abroad without truly wishing to do so it because of health reasons. The student could become ill and need special medical assistance that they cannot receive in their own country. The student would, therefore have to move where that medical care is provided. Students might also find that they have to study in different countr ies because of financial reasons. ... If fact, it is more common for students to study abroad simply because they choose to than because they had no other choice. For many students, studying in a foreign country is an exciting opportunity. The Effects of Study Abroad Rather the student is studying abroad because of their active decision or because of issues in their life that thy found unavoidable, it is clear that learning in a foreign environment has great benefits for the development of the studentââ¬â¢s intellect. As it was reported, ââ¬Å"International educators at either side of the Atlantic have long recognized that college students returning from studying abroad show positive changesâ⬠(Hadis, 2003:p.3). Some of the benefits to the student include a greater awareness of global affairs, heightened foreign language acquisition, increased cultural sensitivity, and new experiences. These benefits are becoming more and more important in todayââ¬â¢s society, where globalization is being spread at a rapid pa ce. One day, only those who have a better global view will be able to truly be successful. Since students are such because they are seeking to better themselves, it would seem that the opportunity to study abroad is one that no student should pass up on. IT keeps them from having tunnel vision. Overall View of Study Abroad Getting an education is a powerful way to change a personââ¬â¢s life. Getting an education in a country that is not their own is a way of adding even more power to their education. One of the best ways to be a success is to have a diverse set of experiences from which to draw. Studying abroad is a method to gain these experiences. This route of
